"The entire experience was great. My wife and 15-year-old daughter rented bikes and cycled from Sallins to Cliff at Lyons. The bikes were very comfortable, and we didn't have to change gears as the route is completely flat, following alongside the canal. I would highly recommend Grand Canal Greenway Bike Hire for their bikes, but also as a good starting point for a cycle". Pearse Q.

Cycling onThe Grand Canal Greenway

Cycling along the Grand Canal in Kildare offers a delightful blend of urban and rural experiences. Starting from the charming inland harbour village of Sallins, you can embark on a scenic ride towards the Cliff at Lyons and Hazelhatch. Along the way, you can stop by the Arthur Guinness exhibition at Ardclough, Th Pantry Cafe at the Cliff or continuing a bit further to McEvoys Pub. From Hazelhatch, the newely upgraded track continues on to Dublin.

Alternatively, head west from Sallins to Robertstown, where you can join the Barrow Blueway. These routes traverse picturesque green countryside, passing by historic 240-year-old bridges and locks, with the occasional barge cruising by. The sections from Sallins to the Cliff at Lyons, Hazelhatch to Dublin, and from Robertstown to Athy have all been upgraded to hard-surface cycle tracks.
