cycling onGrand Canal Greenway

Cycling along the Grand Canal in Kildare is a mix of urban and rural experiences. Starting from our base in the picturesque inland harbour village of Sallins you can cycle down to the Cliff at Lyons, up to Robertstown where you can join the Barrow Blueway, or over to the market town of Naas.

All routes travel through lush green countryside, past 240 year old bridges and locks with occasional barges cruising by.

Surfaces vary with some sections tarmacked, some gravel and some grass track. The sections from Cliff at Lyons to Sallins, and from Robertstown to Athy have been fully upgraded to a hard surface cycle tracks.
